Eligibility for Indian e-Visa


  • Tourists and foreign nationals whose sole objective for visiting India is casual visit to meet friends and relatives, recreation activities, sight seeing, attending any short term courses of local language, learning in a short term yoga programme, medicine, musical shows, dance performances, arts & crafts competitions, cooking programme etc which should be vocational courses/programmes (courses not beyond a duration of 6 months and also which do not issue any qualifying certificate, degree or diploma etc) in nature but not a formal one, voluntary work of short duration for a maximum duration of a month, which do not involve any consideration or perks of any kind in return), taking medical treatment only under Indian medical systems, as an attendant to any patient being treated in an Indian hospital or centre holding an e-Medical visa, investment or business purposes and meetings, to attend any conference, seminar or a workshop organised by the Government of India, some Indian Ministry or it’s department could be State Governments or Union Territory Administrations & their associates, subordinates & Public Sector Units and private conferences organised by private persons, companies or some organisations.

  • The Applicant’s passport must be valid for a period of 6 months at the time of submission of the Indian e-visa application.

  • Foreign tourists must have either return tickets or tickets for their onward journey along with enough money to support their duration of stay in India.

  • Such International Travellers who are Pakistani Passport or born in Pakistani must apply for a regular Visa at some Indian Mission as they are not eligible for e-visa to India.

  • e-Visa India is also not available for Diplomatic or Official Passport Holders. They must apply through an Indian Mission.

  • Every international traveller must have his own individual visa granted whether they are a child or an adult. A child visa can’t be endorsed on their parent’s passport. Their visa must be granted against their own individual passport.

  • The e-visa for India is always granted against a valid passport not against any other travel document.
